Title/Titre: My Little Butterball
Company/Compagnie: Windsor Feminist Theatre, Windsor, ON
English Description:
Christian Bédard’s My Little Butterball is an original Canadian script and score exploring a young woman’s lifelong battle with self-image and weight issues. This engaging, accessible, and heart-warming comedy was originally written in French in 1986 as a one-woman show, and toured Québec and France extensively, but has had little exposure in English speaking Canada.
Since 1986, the relevance of this musical seems only to have increased, as this troubling phenomenon continues to affect more youth, at an even earlier age.
WFT is indebted to the support provided by Ms. Mia Tannous (BANA), Mr. Barry Furlonger, The Downtown Mission, and particularly to both the composer, Kevin Muir, and the playwright, Christian Bédard, who will be traveling from Montréal to attend the festival.

Company/Compagnie: Glen Allen Pruett/Patricia Ansuini, USA
English Description:
At the height of the Victorian Era of the 1880/90's, Oscar Wilde was at the pinnacle of his success as a playwright, poet and esthete. In May of 1895 he was convicted of "gross indecency" and sent to prison for two years at hard labor. Upon his release from Reading Gaol in May of 1897, he exiled himself to France. There, and in Italy, he wandered alone, disoriented, confused, hungry and penniless, begging from his few friends for sustenance and shelter.
Wandering the Parisian streets, Oscar Wilde stumbles into the back alley of a theatre starving and abandoned. In his battle to regain his sanity, Wilde can only speak using the language of his long poem, "The Ballad of Reading Gaol." Cuttings from Wilde's prison letter "De Profundis" are used as well. The show also blends flashes of Beckett, Brecht and Shakespeare, Commedia del Arte, clowning, and song.
